Jovial Jess - Border Collie (Wiltshire)
Jess is a 10 year old Border Collie and she’s currently in the care of an Oldies Club foster home in Wiltshire.
From the first day she arrived, Jess got on very well with her foster family’s own three dogs and from about day four she had completely settled into her new routine.
Jess is quite happy to be left for reasonable periods of time, although her foster family did return one day to find her quite happily sitting on the dining room table!
Jess is good with other dogs outside the home and gets along with her foster family’s three Labradors, but she doesn’t like dogs getting too close and invading her personal space. If they do she’ll give a warning snap at them. Her foster family don’t think this is a big problem though and she responds very well to a firm “no!”
Jess hasn’t met many cats, but didn’t seem to be bothered by a couple she saw at the vets recently. She does try to chase squirrels though, so would probably chase a cat if she had the chance.
Jess would be fine living with teenagers, but as she has a tendency to be possessive she wouldn’t be suitable for a home with small children.
Jess is always up for a walk and barks excitedly when you pick up her lead. She pulls to begin with and is quite strong, but soon calms down and walks quite well. When she’s off-lead she thinks it’s playtime, so you’re expected to have a ball or tag to throw for her! She’s proving to have good recall and if you have a ball in your hand she won’t stray too far. Jess prefers “little and often” when it comes to walking and playing and she seems more active in the afternoons. She settles down to snooze in the evenings once she’s had her dinner.
Jess has been walked in the local town where she encountered lots of people, heavy traffic, children, shopping trolleys, other dogs, wheelchairs, walking sticks and ducks! She wasn’t worried at all!
Jess is good in the car and well behaved at the vets and she knows some commands, such as “sit” and “down”.
She’s described by her fosterer as active and determined, but also funny and heart warming. She’s loveable and loyal and will make a great companion for someone. Her perfect home would be with someone who can give her plenty of attention and walks and she’d love a large garden and access to fields and footpaths.
Jess has been spayed and is vaccinated, microchipped and flea and worm treated. She had a very small mammary lump removed at the time of her spay, but we are still waiting for the lab results.
