Super Shep - Collie (Wiltshire)
Shep is a happy and sociable Border Collie boy who is currently in the care of an Oldies Club foster home in Calne, Wiltshire.
Shep’s sad past: Shep has had quite a traumatic time. He was abandoned when his previous owners moved home and he ended up in the local pound where he was due to be put to sleep. Fortunately, Oldies Club came to the rescue and he’s now safe and happy in his Oldies Club foster home. Consequently, we know very little about his past, but Shep is estimated to be between 12 and 14 years old and his foster carers picked his new name.
Settling in: On arrival, Shep was quite uncertain of his new surroundings and he took a few days to settle in. He’s gained a lot of confidence now though and is currently living with three other dogs.
At home: Shep is fine to be left alone for a couple of hours, but he finds the company of another dog and a radio (nothing too noisy, perhaps a preference for Radio 4) reassuring. He finds stairs a bit of a problem and is happy to sleep downstairs through the night. He does need to know where the rest of his family is though and is happiest when everyone is together. Shep is house trained and has only barked occasionally, but he does snore!
Out and about: Shep enjoys a potter in the garden and going out for walks, but all at his own pace. At the moment he seems happier being walked on the lead on the pavement and is a little unsure if he’s let off in an open space – perhaps this is too close a reminder of his recent past. Shep is happy in the car and seems to enjoy his outings.
Other animals: Shep enjoys the company of the other dogs in his family and he’s now quite keen to play. He’s met several other animals during trips to the vet and has always been well mannered with them. Shep will show an interest in cats and squirrels if they move very quickly, but with the right introduction he may be able to live with a confident cat.
Dislikes: Shep isn’t keen on being groomed, but his fosterers are currently working on this.
Shep’s perfect home: All Shep wants is some security, love and affection in his old age. He would like a home with either another dog for company or for people to be around most of the time. Because Shep is such a friendly and laid back dog, his foster carers feel he would be happy living with older children provided that he could have some space and be left to sleep undisturbed.
More from his foster carers: Shep is a sweet natured dog who smiles a lot and will make a good companion dog. Given his past, he will need new owners who can devote the time and effort to make him feel loved, comfortable and secure in his new home. They will be rewarded with a quiet, sociable dog who is just happy to be in their company.
Health notes: Shep is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and flea and worm treated. He’s in general good health, but has some stiffness in his legs and is on medication for this. He needs to have some small lumps removed, so this could delay any potential adoption by a few weeks. Sheps is also on a strict diet at the moment as he’s overweight, although his foster carers allow him the luxury of a warm cup of tea (no sugar!)

Good luck Shep in finding a home of your own (with Radio 4) in the background bless
