Cassie - Cocker Spaniel (Wiltshire)
Meet Cassie, a gorgeous Cocker Spaniel who was born 18th Aug 1998. Cassie is described by her foster carer as spritely, affectionate, loyal and cuddly. She came into rescue because in her previous home she was being left for extremely long periods of time. She’s now in an Oldies Club foster home in Chippenham, Wiltshire and hoping to find a new forever home with someone who can make her feel special.
Settled in gradually: For the first couple of days in her foster home, Cassie would cry a little and wander around, but she gradually settled in. She sleeps downstairs and on the first night she barked for about 5-10 minutes, but then slept through the night without any problems. Since then her foster family haven’t heard a peep from her and they say she’s now enjoying having a lie-in every morning.
Loves company: Cassie is very affectionate and she loves company. In her previous home she was left for long periods of time whilst her owners were at work and she would become quite anxious. She has been left for 2-3 hours in her foster home without any problems, but we would love to see Cassie in a home where she will have someone around most of the time.
Good with dogs and cats: Cassie shares her foster home with another dog and several cats and she tends to ignore them most of the time. She barked at one of the cats once, but only in defence when he hissed at her.
Could live with older children: Cassie shows no aggression at all, but because she is deaf and sleeps very soundly she could easily be startled by young children. She would therefore be much better in a home with older, teenage children who will be sensible around her.
Loves her walks: Cassie loves going for walks and is still very spritely for her twelve and a half years. She’s good on the lead, happily trotting along beside you, and she’ll walk for about an hour without tiring. Cassie is deaf so she isn’t let off-lead as she would be inclined to wander off. In the garden though, she does respond if you can catch her eye and beckon her.
Loves the car: Cassie loves going for car rides and will try to jump in the minute you open the door! She settles down and is as quiet as a mouse during the journey. She’ll make a super little companion for someone who likes to travel on their holidays.
Cassie’s favourite pastimes: Cassie loves eating! She was underweight when she first arrived so really appreciates her food and gets quite excited and vocal at mealtimes. She has no food aggression, but if fed with another dog she probably wouldn’t respect their space as she has such an urgent need to get to the food. This will probably resolve itself as she puts on more weight and understands that she’s going to be fed regularly.
Cassie’s other favourite pastime is sleeping and she loves to have a lie in every morning. She seems to find the cat beds the comfiest as they are just about her size.
Cassie’s dislikes: Cassie doesn’t seem to have any specific fears, but she wouldn’t like to be left alone for too long or on a regular basis. She is fine with an occasional 2-3 hours.
Cassie’s perfect home: Cassie would love a home with someone who has the time to make her feel special and where she can feel like the centre of the family. She loves her walks and enjoys company, so with a few car rides thrown in, lots of cuddles, plenty of food and some comfy beds to sleep in, she’ll be a very happy girl indeed!
Health notes: Cassie is deaf and currently being treated for an ear infection, but she takes her tablets very well in her food. Her ears will need to be checked regularly, as Cocker Spaniels are prone to ear problems. She also has a couple of warts on her face, but these are not causing problems and the vet has advised they be left alone.
As a youngster Cassie ate something poisonous which caused nerve damage to one side of her face, so she has a slightly droopy left eye. This causes no problems at all though and isn’t too noticeable.
Cassie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and has been flea and worm treated.
Foster carer’s summary: Cassie is a dear sweet soul who will be an easy dog to care for. She has had to occupy herself previously and in her later years it would be lovely for her to find someone who can make her feel special.
