Finlay ~ Super Loving & No Hassle – 8yo White/Brindle Greyhound
FINLAY
**UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013**
Location: Previous home in Norfolk, UK.
Key Points: Very affectionate, loyal & obedient, housetrained, ok with dogs, bit of care with small dogs, suitable to live with other medium-large canines & children over 8.
Finlay is an 8 year old greyhound gent who sadly has to move on from his home of 3 years due to no fault of his own. His sister Bessy is also looking for a home to call hers, but they can be homed separately. Finlay is a beautiful fella with a white coat and brindle patches. He never raced and spent most of his earlier years as a pet in Ireland.
~ Personality ~
Generally: Calm, gentle, affectionate, very loving and loyal, good manners, easy-going.
Finlay has a really beautiful character, a kind soul. He truly wants to get along with you, and is one of the most no-bother dogs you could ask for. He is extremely easy going and accepts what comes his way without much fuss. Finlay adores people and loves a good cuddle. He gentle pushes himself against your legs for a bit of TLC, and really does soak up every drop of love and affection that you give. He can also do a few tricks such as sit and lay down. He is a lovely laid back boy, content in his own skin and nicely confident. This fella has so very much to give to whoever has space on their sofa for an older gent.
~ In the Home ~
Generally: Housetrained, very good, ok to be left with canine company, not destructive.
Finlay is very used to living in a home, and is no bother at all. He is quiet through the night, used to being left with canine company, doesn’t countersurf and isn’t destructive. He is fully housetrained, but may still have an accident when he first moves to the new home simply due to the upheaval and stress of the move.
Finlay is a real lazy butt and is very happy to snooze most of the day away, following a patch of sun around the floor. He has occasional moments of madness, where he flings a toy around the garden with you, but then is content to settle down again and doze. He really adores his cuddle time.
~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Great with familiar canines, can bark at dogs but is not aggressive, suitable to live with another medium-large dog.
Finlay is in general ok with other dogs. He is fantastic with other sighthounds and is used to sharing his home with another greyhound friend. He can bark at other dogs when meeting them on lead, but this is mainly due to him copying his houndy sister Bessy, who gets excited when she sees unfamiliar dogs. Finlay hasn’t quite mastered small dogs yet, and is a bit unsure about what they are. He isn’t very strong or keen, however, and with lots of positive exposure to other breeds of dog more often, we believe he will overcome this issue. Finlay shared his previous home with 2 hamsters and was originally living on a farm in Ireland with a host of other animals.
~ Out and About ~
Generally: Excellent on lead, great in car, polite when meeting other people, good recall.
Like most greyhounds, Finlay is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks excellently on the lead and always keeps to heel.
Finlay’s recall is very good for a greyhound type, and though he does occasionally have moments of complete deafness, his previous owners’ report that he never strays far from your side. As such, he will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads after he has bonded well with his new owners.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.
~ Where Am I? ~
Finlay is currently still in his previous home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to meet and collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Finlay is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in adopting Finlay, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.
There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html.
Thank you.
