Lionel - Bassett Hound

Please meet Lionel!
Lionel is a 4 year old Bassett hound who has had a very poor start in life. Lionel is a complex character and certainly not a dog for beginners! Lionel has bitten in his previous home and he needs a patient, experienced and understanding home to help him be the wonderful dog he has the potential to be! Lionel has been working with our behaviorist who will continue to support him and his new owners in his new home. He is fantastic with clicker training and needs to build up trust with those who are 'hands on' with him.
Lionel will need to live with another dog and we ask that potential new owners visit at least three times after a successful home-check to meet him and begin a bond with him.
Upon adoption, his new owners will receive a consultation in the home from our behaviorist who will be on hand thereafter to give support and advice.
Whilst we know many people will fall for his gorgeous eyes, we do need to make sure his new owners are dedicated and we will be unable to consider people who are not fully aware of the challenges Lionel will present! He is a loving dog but he will need lots of time and understanding to get him to his full potential.
The ''musts' for his new home are :-
1. At least one other resident dog
2. An experienced home who have had dogs with 'issues' in the past
3. No children and the ability to keep him separate from visiting children, at least in the interim
4. A home with those who will work with our behaviorist and follow her advice
Lionel is currently with South East Dog Rescue in Swanley, Kent, but we rehome all over the country.
Lionel has been neutered, vaccinated, wormed, deflead and microchipped. He could live with cats.
