Irene ~ Gorgeous Friendly Lady - 2yo White&Black Greyhound
IRENE
Irene is pretty white greyhound girl with black splodges who is just 2 years old. She has been handed to us with her sister Sandra as they weren’t fast enough for the racing world. Both Irene and Sandra have been named after two ladies who donate a lot of time and effort into knitting the dog jumpers that we sell in our online shop. Irene is only 26 inches in height and can curl up very, very small; you wouldn’t even notice her on your sofa! Both she and her sister are happy, friendly girls and we would love to find a home for these two dear ladies together if we can, but we would consider homing them separately if the right home comes along.
~ Personality ~
Irene is a lovely friendly lady who seems to just take things as they come. She enjoys people and still seems surprise at all the fuss and attention she’s getting now. She doesn’t ask for much, and is very happy go lucky. We will update with more info on her when we get to know her better.
~ Other Animals ~
Irene is a sociable girl and is good with the other greyhounds in our kennels. She has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!
~ In the Home ~
Irene has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Irene will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
~ Where Am I? ~
Irene is currently in kennels with her sister in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect her.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Irene is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.
If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering, please email me (Tam) on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks!
~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~
Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 30 greyhounds at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.

If interested in one of our hounds, please EMAIL me for our adoption application form and information pack. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.
If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I can be contacted through the following email:
