Bessie Buttons - Crossbreed (Wheathampstead Herts)
Bess is a seven year old collie-sized crossbreed girl who is looking for a home through no fault of her own. She came into Oldies Club care because her owner had to move home and unfortunately dogs weren’t allowed in the new accommodation. Bess is now in an Oldies Club foster home in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire where she’s waiting for someone to offer her a permanent home.
Settled in well: Bess didn’t take very long to settle. Within three days she was used to her new home and routine and she doesn’t mind being left for a few hours at a time.
Change of name: In her previous home Bess was known as Buttons, but her foster carers have been calling her Bess and think she responds much better to this.
Good with other dogs: Bess is friendly with other dogs and she could probably live with another dog in her new home.
Could possibly live with cats: Whilst Bess hasn’t met any cats recently, she has encountered rabbits, pheasants and squirrels on her daily walks and has always been very calm and laid back around them. She may therefore be okay living with a confident cat.
Great with children: Bess has met her foster carer’s two young grandchildren (aged 3 and 4 years old) and has been great with them. She’s a very sweet and gentle natured girl and would be fine living with a family with respectful children.
Good on walks and travels well: Bess is well behaved out on walks. She walks well on the lead and has good recall too, so she can be let off-lead in safe areas. Her foster carers have taken her on short car journeys and say that she travels well.
Bess’s likes: Bess is an easy to please girl and enjoys having a cuddle on the sofa.
Bess’s dislikes: Bess doesn’t have any particular fears, but she isn’t keen on walking in the rain – well who can blame her for that!
Bess’s ideal home: Bess is a very easy going dog who will fit well into most homes. She’s good with children so would be happy living with a family, but she’d also make a great companion for an older, retired person.
Health Notes: Bess is a little overweight, but is otherwise in good health. We were told that she suffered from a skin allergy. However, on examination by our vet her skin was found to be okay and she hasn’t shown any sign of skin problems whilst in our care. We think she may react to certain food colourings or additives, so provided that she is kept on a good diet she should be fine.
Foster carer’s summary: Bess’s foster carers sum her up nicely. They describe her as Calm, Friendly, Gentle and Loyal – doesn’t she sound just perfect!
