Tick - 5 year old JRT looking for an outdoor home
Meet Tick! A handsome 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier who is looking for an active home where he can enjoys lots of time outdoors.
Tick is currently staying in kennels at our behaviourists in Wales and they have been able to carry out a full assessment of Tick in order for us to find a suitable home.
Initially when moved into a new environment, Tick is very keen on company, but as he gets more at home he is very independent. He will greet with tail wag and excitement but is not keen on being touched. His independent nature means that he is quite content to be left for extended periods on his own and is always keen to go back into his own space following a walk.
Ticks biggest issue is resource guarding, he is protective of his bed, kennel, food bowl and toys. Virtually everything that Tick regards as high value, horse muck, areas and he’s even been known to guard where he thinks a rat may have been. He loves his activity feeders which is the way he is being fed. Once he has finished he is let out of the kennel and you are able to take the feeder out for next time.
Here's a video of Tick enjoying exactly that https://s1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa468/axylouise/?action=view¤t=P1030368.mp4
The good news is that Tick usually gives very obvious warning signals when guarding – growling, snarling, showing all teeth before he snaps, it is necessary to heed these warnings as he has unfortunately learnt previously that if all else fails, biting works.
With this in mind Tick would not fit into a normal home environment and definitely no children around as he is likely to guard area’s of a house from people living in it such as sofa’s, beds, stairs, food making everyone’s life difficult.
He would be quite happy living outside in a nice kennel environment or stable as long as he is given enough stimulation and kept busy.
He enjoys playing with the other dogs and though his guarding behaviour can sometimes get him into trouble, he does show adequate submissive behaviour to defuse a fight should it occur.
Tick is far from a lap dog or family pet but he is a lovely boy who very much deserves a chance.
Tick has been castrated, micro chipped and vaccinated.

Tick is fine with ducks, goats, horses and pigs! What a clever boy
Can anyone offer Tick the home he so needs and deserves?
