Katie ~ Shy Lady Needs Loving Home - 6yo Black Greyhound

KATIE

Katie is a 6 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who was also used for breeding when she retired from the track. Now this dear lady is looking to find her forever sofa to retire to. Katie has a black coat with a white ‘heart’ on her chest and is in quite good condition.



Katie has spent all her life so far in racing type kennels, and this sadly shows in her personality. Katie is a sensitive, nervous girl who has been overwhelmed by the changes in her surroundings. She has not seen much of the outside world and it is an awful lot to take in at once. She is also not very used to being handled gently by people and sadly does not yet know what a cuddle is.



We hope that in the next few weeks we can start to crack Katie’s shell and get to discover her personality. She is slowly adjusting to our routine and does respond to kind, gentle words. She is gradually coming out of herself and learning to trust and approach people. We have also brought her out on group walks and she has enjoyed the chance to sniff at trees and even paddle in a lake!



This girlie will ideally need the calm, loving environment of a foster home to truly develop a trust in people, and we hope to get her out of kennels in the near future. So far Katie has been good with the other greyhounds in our kennels, and is more comfortable when around them. We feel a home with other dogs present is a must for this girlie as she will rely on them heavily during the first few months. Everything will be so new to her.



Like most greyhounds, Katie will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.



Katie is currently being kennelled in Co. Cork, Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick her up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting her, she will be fostered in the Norfolk area.

Katie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England. It operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.
