Galway Christy ~ Lovable Big Boy – 4yo Blue/White Greyhound

GALWAY CHRISTY

Galway Christy, is a 3-4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. He has done well in his racing career and has been handed in to us to find him a nice retirement home. Christy has a lovely blue and white coat with striking eyes, and is in good overall condition.

Galway Christy is still a new boy to our kennels so we are still assessing his personality. So far, however, he has been a real star and is a big cuddly boy, loving his fuss. Though he is quite a big lad, he behaves very well and is easily managed. He is much admired in our kennels and we hope he won’t have to wait too long to find his forever home.



Galway Christy has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far and has not caused any trouble on the group walks. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs, but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! He is not cat friendly.

Christy has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It usually takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.

Like most greyhounds, Christy is really a big lazy potato and will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.



In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Galway Christy is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England. It operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.
