Maggie-May ~ Beautiful Bouncy Loving Lady – 18mo White/Fawn Lurcher
MAGGIE MAY
**UPDATED: AUGUST 2012**
Say hello to Maggie-May! She is a beautiful white and fawn lurcher girlie who is now looking for a loving home after a horrible start to life. Though just 18 months old, Maggie-May was taken from death row in a pound in Ireland, heavily pregnant and underweight. She has recovered very well from this ordeal now, and is a gorgeous healthy girl ready for a home of her own.
~ Personality ~
Though starting out from terribly sad circumstances, Maggie-May hasn’t let that dampen her spirits and love of life. This girl is just fantastic. She is brilliantly affectionate, fun loving and energetic, absolutely packed full of love and the potential to truly flourish in a loving home.
Maggie-May looooooooves people. She would very gladly accept pettings and cuddles all day long. She loves meeting new friends, both human and canine, and is just a big bag of fun waiting to be had. It’s impossible not to smile at this girl and her big goofy grin and clownish antics. She will be a fantastic dog for a fairly active home, and would excel at something that makes her think, such as agility or flyball. Maggie-May might come across as bouncy initially, but give her 5 minutes to cool down and she’s a very attentive, interactive girl who looks to you for direction, especially if you give out tasty treats!
~ Other Animals ~
Maggie-May is brilliant with all other dogs and has never caused any trouble. She can get over excited during play, especially if she’s playing with another easily excited dog, but a quick break or distraction with food is all that’s needed to calm them down. At 18mths, Maggie-May is also still a puppy at heart, so this exuberance is understandable, it just might be a bit too much for a small or timid dog. There's no malice in her at all and she loves meeting new doggie friends. Maggie-May has not yet been cat tested but this will be carried out as soon as possible – she may be cat trainable.
~ In the Home ~
Maggie-May has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. This lady is going to love the home life and is sure to keep her new owners laughing hard with her antics. All she will need is a short period of learning and patience to adjust to the changes.
This gorgeous girl would do so well in a home with other dogs present to help wear her out and drain her excess energy. She is still a young girl and quite exuberant, and for this reason alone we feel she would be better homed with a family without young children as she may bowl them over. Older kids or teenagers would be ideal for this girl, as she would truly love to be taught tricks and how to play fetch. This girl craves direction and would do well if given a ‘job’ to do.
~ Out and About ~
Maggie-May really enjoys her walks, almost as much as she enjoys her food! She is currently quite strong on the lead and will pull, so this is something that needs further work. A gentle leader or halter might very well be the cure to this, and it’s being worked on with our kennel walkers. This lovely lady has also never been in a home surrounded by people all the time, so half of this pulling is likely due to the pure excitement of getting interaction time. We would expect her excitement levels to decrease once she’s in a stable home environment with a healthy balance of love, exercise and training, she just needs that chance to prove herself.
~ Where Am I? ~
Maggie-May is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Maggie-May is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering Maggie-May, please visit either our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html for information and instructions on our homing & fostering procedures. If you have any further questions or problems, please feel free to email me (Tam) on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!
~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~
Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.
