SATURDAY

**UPDATED: JUNE 2012**

Saturday is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound girl. Saturday ran approx. 20 races for her previous owner but is now finished with all that and is looking for a loving family to call her own. She is a pretty little girl, sporting a white coat speckled with faint Dalmatian spots and her face is almost perfectly half white, half black. She also has a big black spot right on her bottom!

~ Personality ~
Saturday is, in short, that perfect dog. She doesn’t have any real faults to speak of, and is more than ready for her forever home. She really adores people and is confidently affectionate without being overbearing or bouncy. She is very much your typical greyhound – calm and loving with just enough of an energy spurt to give you your daily quota of laughs before choosing to snooze the rest of the day away. Saturday would be a great choice for a first time greyhound owner, as she is very flexible and easy-going, already the perfect pooch.

~ In the Home ~
Saturday has been in a foster home in Ireland for approx. 6 months and will be coming to KGUK to find her forever family. As such she is well adjusted to living in a house, and has never caused her fosterer any problems. She has always been excellent with people and doesn’t jump up, so she would be suitable to live in a home with children over the age of 8. She is housetrained, quiet through the night, not destructive, doesn’t countersurf, and has all her basic commands learned. She absolutely loves her walks, and in fact the only time she barks is when she sees the leads coming out! Once on the walk, however, she is a cool calm cucumber and trots along beside you.

Saturday has shared her foster home with a variety of other dogs, including a blind terrier, a weimeraner, 2 other greyhounds and a lurcher. She is also used to having other foster dogs come and go, and so is very social and dog savvy. She has a great appetite and again is used to eating with other dogs around her. She is not aggressive of her toys or treats, and has a level of patience for other dogs that comes from living with a blind terrier. Because she has always been surrounded by other dogs, we do not know how well Saturday would adjust to an only dog, so ideally homes looking for another companion dog would be ideal for this girl.

~ Other Animals ~
As already mentioned, Saturday is a star with other dogs. She’s very steady and calm when meeting new dogs, and is used to sharing her space with them. She could slot very easily into an existing pack and would be a lovely, easy companion for another dog of any age. Saturday isn’t overly playful, but can be coerced into play on occasion if the other dog is insistent. She’s a very stable lady and could provide a great role model for another dog. She is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~
Saturday is a real delight to bring out on walks. She loves her walks and gets so happy when she senses it’s time to go, but once out she is calm and steady. Saturday loves the car and settles very quickly, even for long journeys. Like most greyhounds, Saturday will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. She has good recall too and her current fosterer walks her offlead in the countryside, though please note that you will need to form a good bond with her before letting her offlead for the first time.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~
Saturday is currently still with her fosterer in Ireland, but will be travelling across to KGUK in Norfolk within the next month. You are free to send in your enquiry about her now, but please note you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Saturday is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Saturday, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. If you have any further questions or problems, please feel free to email me (Tam) on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

Our Website: Kerry Greyhounds UK

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I (Tam) can be contacted through the following email:
