Ben - Crossbreed (Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire)
Ben is a gorgeous cuddly Crossbreed boy who is 10 years old. Ben came into our care when his owner became too ill to care for him and he is now in an Oldies Club foster home in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.
Introduction:Ben came from quite a sad situation but he has taken things in his stride and is proving to be a dream of a boy. We hope he will quickly find the lovely new home he deserves.
Ben was very overweight when he arrived. He is losing the extra pounds nicely, as you can see from the other photos, which have been taken more recently.
Settled quickly: It took Ben only a couple of days to settle at his foster home and he is happy to be left alone for a couple of hours.
Good with dogs and children: Ben is absolutely fine with other dogs. He is happy to be with the resident dogs in his foster home and is fine with dogs out on walks. He is also good with children, but because of his size, he would be better suited to children over 7 years. We don’t know how Ben would be with cats as he hasn’t lived with them previously.
Good on walks and enjoys playing: Ben enjoys his walks and just ignores other dogs. He has good recall and is very good on the lead. Now that he has lost some weight Ben loves playing. He runs up and down the garden with the resident dogs and brings any toy he can find and drops it at your feet for you to throw for him. He is obviously enjoying being able to run again, as he couldn’t do it when he first arrived!
Ben’s ideal home: Ben’s ideal home would be somewhere where there are older children or other dogs for him to play with, but he would be equally fine on his own. Ben is just a gorgeous, easy-going lad who doesn’t seem to have any particular fears or dislikes.
Health notes: Ben is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and flea and worm treated. He is said to be about 10 years old but the vet thought he could be a little younger as his teeth are in great shape and it’s just his weight issue that makes him seem older. He has a honeydew-melon-sized harmless lump on his chest, and a lump on his shoulder, which the vet says could be removed for cosmetic purposes but they don’t cause him any problems so it’s best to leave them alone. Ben is on a strict weight-loss programme, so is not allowed any treats or scraps at all.
Foster carer’s summary of Ben:Ben is loving, friendly and playful. He is a very loyal dog, a woman’s dog, but he does get along with
men too! He will wait by the back door for me when I’m out and still be there when I get back – my partner has noticed this! When I get in he is happy and playful and delighted to see me.
He loves his tennis ball and any toy that squeaks; they don’t squeak for long though as he chews them! He was very overweight when he arrived but on a strict diet he has lost some weight and has found a new lease of life, which is wonderful to see. He will continue to be on this diet and we will continuously see an improvement in him. He will make a wonderful companion for anyone. I must add though that he does snore. Sometimes quite loudly!
If you can offer Ben a permanent home, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:
Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656
He can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet him.
