Pretty Penny - Yorkshire Terrier (Barnsley, South Yorkshire)
Penny is the prettiest little 11 year old Yorkshire Terrier girl who is an Oldies Club foster home in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, waiting for someone to offer her a permanent home.
Settled gradually: Penny was very quiet when she arrived, and stayed in her box, but this is probably because there are 3 other dogs in her foster home. After a couple of days she became bolder. She used to stay behind the other dogs if food was around but now she is bold enough to push to the front. Penny seems fine when left, but she is always left with the other dogs for company.
Fine with dogs: Penny is fine with dogs, but her foster carers think she feels a bit overpowered by the dogs in her foster home (they are all bigger than her). She would probably prefer to live on her own or perhaps with a small, quiet companion.
Will chase cats: We were told by Penny’s previous owner that she will chase cats so she probably needs a cat-free home. She also gets very excited at the sight of her foster carers’ rabbit!
Good with children: Penny’s previous owner told us that she was fine with their grandchildren. In her foster home she has been fine with visiting 8 year olds and quite happy to be cuddled by them.
Enjoys her walks: Penny really enjoys a walk, but because of her age, size and having a bit of a limp, a few short walks are better for her than a long one. She walks well on lead and, now that she has settled, her recall around the home is good, but her foster carers haven’t tried testing it on walks.
Very good in the car: Penny enjoys an outing and is interested in what is going on.
Penny’s favourite pastimes: Walking, meeting people and exploring the garden. And despite being tiny, she is quite bold.
Penny’s perfect home: Preferably with someone older who is home a lot of the time, but active enough for a couple of short walks. She loves attention but is not a lap dog. Penny’s not good on big steps so a home with few steps would be good for her.
Health notes: Penny is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. When she arrived in Oldies Club care she was said to have Cushings disease and was on tablets for this. She has thickening of the skin on her paws, ear and a little on her back. Our vet thinks the thickening is probably the result of an environmental allergy and the cushings may be the result of medication. The vet suggested that we stop the tablets for Cushings to allow her natural steroids to help the paws. She has been off the medication for 2 weeks and there have been no bad side effects. New fur is growing, making her paws look better. The cushings has not recurred. She has a bit of a limp on her back leg, but it doesn’t slow her down!
Four adjectives that sum up Penny: Bubbly, Cute, Lovable, Stubborn.
Foster carer’s summary: A tiny Yorkie, measuring 10in, but this small package is full of personality. A happy dog who wants nothing more than to be with you. Very sociable dog, tail never stops waging. A delightful little low maintenance dog who will light up someone’s life.
High praise indeed for this Yorkshire cutie.
If you can offer Penny a permanent home, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

She can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet her.
