Betty - gorgeous elderly staffy

Post by Buddy's mum on Sat Sep 26, 2009 12:27 pm

Betty is presently with Animal Helpline Dog Rescue near Peterborough, Cambs. I am not sure if Betty has been spayed prior to coming into rescue but if not we would have to take advice from our vet about this due to her health problems.

Betty is a gorgeous elderly staffy girl who came to us from the stray pound. She is an adorable lady who currently shares her kennel with another dog. Betty really needs to be in a warm and comfy home as soon as possible. She has a cough which has been checked out by our vet who informs us that Betty's heart is fine so she may have little problem with her lungs. Betty's back legs are not that strong. However, this does not stop her from scampering around and enjoying her walks. Betty has had a couple of fits since she has been with us so we really do want her out of kennels quickly to be looked after in a home environment.

Betty is house trained and although she gets on with other dogs when out and about on her walks she definitely wants to be top dog in the home and rule the roost! So we feel Betty would perhaps be best suited as an only pet. Betty is extremely affectionate and loving, and enjoys being cuddled. She is happy to be touched all over, have her ears checked and be groomed. She is very playful, likes toys and comes when called or whistled, charging at you for a hug!

Please can you offer Betty the home she deserves? She desperately needs a forever home but if you can offer Betty a foster home in the meantime she will return your kindness a million times over.

If you feel you can help Betty please contact Ros on 07849 637862.

Many thanks

Marie

Is is a Foster Home or a Forever Home you are looking for Betty?

Can you let us know if the Vets will spay or whether due to medical conditions this will not be done

Hi Elaine

In the perfect world we would love to find a forever home for our gorgeous Betty. However, we need her to be in a warm comfy home asap due to her health problems so if a suitable foster home is on offer until Betty goes to her forever home then that would be fantastic. I will check with Ros asap re the vets recommendation about spaying.

It is getting quite urgent for Betty now. She is not keeping so well and seems quite unhappy. She is not eating that much and has lost some weight so we are worried about her. I took her for a short walk this morning which cheered her up a bit. She is quite stiff in her joints and really needs some home comforts. It is unlikely that Betty will be well enough to be spayed - she is a bit short of breath when she walks so the anaesthetic would be too risky for her. We are desperately trying to get something sorted for Betty. Ros, who runs Animal Helpline, is looking into a number of options for her.

Thank you Julie. Betty is still in desperate need. She just makes me want to cry because she needs comfort. If you put your hand throught the bars of the kennel she rubs her head up against you and she so wants to be loved. I really really hope something comes up for her very soon. We are doing a special appeal for Betty at all our fundraising events.

Hi Julie

We did have a lovely offer from a very nice lady in Glasgow to foster Betty. However, the lady was out at work all day and we felt also that it was a long way for her to travel, especially if things did not work out and she needed to return to us.

Betty is quite settled at the kennels now but she would still benefit from being in warm comfy home with lots of company, especially with all the cold weather upon us.

We are still carrying on with our appeals and hopefully something will happen for Betty soon.

Many thanks

Have you tried cross posting her to dogsblog Marrie? I've done a fair few homechecks generated thorugh there.

Also have you put her on the Oldies Club site ... they do really well in getting older dogs re-homed.

Many many thanks for your interest in Betty and your very helpful suggestions. We do regularly crosspost our dogs on a number of sites including Dogsblog and Oldies. They are wonderful sites aren't they?

I posted Betty's details on both of these sites several weeks ago but the poor lass has not received much interest I am sorry to say. It's such a shame that Betty cannot 'rub shoulders' with other dogs in a home environment. She is fine out and about walking with other dogs but she is extremely dominant with dogs in the home and will go for them in her attempts to be boss lady! We have tried a couple of foster placements where there were resident dogs - both experienced fosterers - and the situation just could not be managed.

Many thanks for your support as always. We will be pulling out all the stops for Betty.
