Lucas ~ Majestic and Friendly Big Boy – 4yo White/Black Greyhound

LUCAS

Meet the majestic Lucas. Lucas is a 4 year old ex-coursing greyhound boy who is looking for his new forever home. Dear Lucas was homed during the summer months but has sadly been returned by his owners due to a change in their work hours, resulting in Lucas being left for longer periods of time. Lucas is a very striking boy, being tall and elegantly marked with a white and black patterned coat. He has a beautiful striped tail and his coat is in very good condition now.



Lucas is a very relaxed, friendly chap. Very little fazes this big boy and he has a calm, easy going demeanour. He is a lovely, gentle dog and likes to rub his head against you when getting fussed over. He also likes to do a comical little ‘dance’ with his front legs when he gets really excited! Lucas can sometimes be wary of men that he doesn’t know, but a bit of patience and perhaps some sausage and he’s soon coming up for a head rub. He has his playful and ‘mad’ moments in the garden, which is a joy to see, and he is slowly showing an interest in toys as he learns what they are for.



Like most greyhounds, Lucas is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks nicely on the lead, rarely pulling, and he looks so beautiful trotting by your side!

Lucas is well used to living in a home, and was generally well behaved for his previous owners. He is used to all the usual household sights and sounds, and also has basic manners. Lucas likes routine, however, and when the change in work hours resulted in a change in his daily pattern, he did have some soiling in the house. This should not be an issue in his new home after he has settled as long as he is given that steady routine. He can be left for several hours without trouble provided he has doggie company.



Lucas is in general good and mannerly with other dogs, though he does sometimes need to be corrected if there are small or excited dogs running around. He has been to dog training classes and was excellently behaved with all the other dogs there, even when they barked at him. New owners may benefit from continuing this with him after adoption. He likes to play with other dogs, though because of his size and tendency to verge a little on the rough side, he would need to be watched very carefully with small dogs and perhaps muzzled as a precaution if offlead with them. Don’t let this deter you, though, as overall Lucas is a lovely, social boy who is well behaved when meeting other dogs. He is not cat friendly.



Lucas had been homed with his greyhound friend, Jensen, who has also been returned to us. We would love to find Lucas and Jensen a home together, though they can definitely be homed separately if an offer comes along. This lovely boy would do well in a relatively relaxed, quiet home with no young children and perhaps another greyhound friend to keep him company.



Lucas is currently in kennels in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet/collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England. It operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.
