Buster is a simply scrumptious 12 year old Collie x Bernese boy who came into Oldies Club care when his owner went into sheltered accommodation. Buster is now in an Oldies Club foster home in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Settled quickly and can be left: Buster settled at his foster home within two to three days. He can be left quite happily for a few hours — you just need to make sure the old soldier has had a pee break first.

Fine with dogs: Buster seems supremely indifferent to most dogs. He’s friendly enough and certainly not excitable around other dogs.

Probably OK with cats: Buster’s previous owner told us that he just ignores cats. His foster carer confirms that he would probably be perfectly happy with cats as he has a very, very calm temperament.

Great with children: Buster is an absolute dream with kids. His foster carer’s young grandsons play with this big old softy without any apprehension or danger.

Excellent on walks: Buster walks very closely to heel off the lead, most if not all of the time. He comes back very readily when called. He has a bit of arthritis so he doesn’t run but he trots along quite well and manages around a mile and a half to two miles twice a day.

Good in the car: Buster is fine in the car and he just curls up in the back and dozes.

Buster’s favourite pastimes: Dozing, sleeping, drinking and (inevitably) peeing! And he drools over doggy chews (Dentix).

Buster’s perfect home: He is still quite active so would like to live with someone who will walk him twice a day. He would be happy with a single person or with a family. His thick coat will need daily brushing; in his previous home he used to go to the groomers periodically.

Health notes: Buster is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. Buster has some arthritis. His rear left leg/hip is the worst but, while he may struggle to get up, once there, he walks quite well. His previous owner gave him supplements to help with this and our vet is assessing whether Buster needs medication.

Foster carer’s summary: Buster is loveable; loyal; calm and friendly. The key thing about Buster is that he is hugely loveable and very appealing. This old boy is something special. Just look into those eyes and see if you can refuse him? He is just a lovely oldish dog who will repay your investment in him with 100% affection and loyalty. He will be a quiet and loving companion.

Have you fallen under Buster’s spell?

If you can offer Buster a permanent home, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

He can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet him.
