Taz ~ Special Home Needed for a Special Girl - 7yo Brindle Greyhound

TAZ

Meet the very special Taz. Taz is a 7 year old greyhound lady who was used for breeding for several years before being handed in to us. She has a truly stunning brindle tiger-striped coat that is in fabulous condition now, and her face is bright and intelligent.



Dear Taz has had a traumatic life so far and came to us very fearful of everything and everyone. She was very run down, both mentally and physically. After several months’ rehabilitation in a loving foster home, however, this little lady is now completely unrecognisable from the fearful, untrusting dog that first came to us. She is a happy, sociable girl who loves greeting people, adores her walks and relishes her home comforts.



Taz was handed in with her son Earl, who is sadly much more traumatised than his mother and still needs further rehabilitation before being ready for his new home. Taz, though, is definitely ready for her forever sofa, so we feel it best to rehome them separately. She has truly blossomed over the past few months, and we are so proud of her progress.



Taz now adores people and loves getting a fuss from anyone. She greets strangers at the door with a big waggy tail and is gentle and mannerly with everyone. She has an understanding of basic commands and is a clever girl with a beautiful character.

Taz has been living in a foster home for several months now, and is very used to the home life. She is brilliantly behaved in the home and is content to just lay about and snooze in between her walks and short bursts of playfulness in the garden. She is clean through the night and is ok to be left with other dogs for company. She is a real sunflower and loves to roach out on her back, soaking up the rays. She also has a quirky love for apples and blackberries, and will even pick them herself from the trees and hedges!



One of Taz’s big loves in life is her walks. She adores getting out and about and gets so excited when she sees her fosterer getting ready for ‘walkie time’. She is now very good at coping with new environments and situations, and didn’t bat an eyelid when she visited the beach for the first time. Recently she even went on a holiday with her fosterers and coped fantastically with the brand new surroundings and altered routine. Sudden noises or loud trucks can still scare her a bit, but she continues to make improvements and can usually be distracted by some really yummy treats. She walks well on the lead, loves going in the car and is inquisitive about the world around her.



Taz is in general good with other dogs, and currently shares her foster home with several other dogs including another greyhound and a small crossbreed, all of whom she gets on very well with. She is comfortable sharing her bed with them and waits her turn when treats are being ‘dispensed’. As often typical of the older ladies, Taz likes to feel respected and will grumble at another dog who jumps all over her. If the other dog respects her space, though, she is a lovely, amiable lady hound.



Taz can become over-excited if she sees lots of little dogs running around, or if she sees a dog coming towards her when on walks. She does sometimes become a bit barky, but can usually be nicely distracted by a yummy treat and responds to a correction if its needed. With a bit more practice at meeting other dogs when out and about, Taz should soon overcome this hurdle. Her fosterer is working on this with her now.



Dear Taz has had a long, harsh life and we are searching for a special retirement home for her to relax in and get all the love she deserves. She would do very well with another male dog of a similar age, or could also live happily as an only dog provided she’s not left alone for long periods of time. Her fosterer is still working on getting her comfortable with being left alone and this is a work in progress.



Despite approaching her golden years, Taz is still an alert and inquisitive girl who enjoys all exercise – walks and runs. She likes having 2 walks a day with the occasional off-lead run in an enclosed area to let off some steam, and we would ideally like for her new owners to continue a similar regime with her in the future.

Taz is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England. It operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.
