Tom is a delightful 13 year old Jack Russell Terrier who came into Oldies Club care when a change in family circumstances meant that Tom had to find himself a new home. He is now in an Oldies Club foster home in Henlow, Bedfordshire.

Settled well: It took Tom a few days to settle at his foster home and he’s proved himself to be a happy, fun-loving little guy who will make someone a super friend. He’s happy to be left alone for a few hours.

Tom needs to move soon: Unfortunately, the resident dog in his foster home has taken a dislike to Tom’s presence, which is making things difficult for his foster carer. We are therefore hoping that Tom will find a new home quickly so that he doesn’t have the upset of moving to another foster home before then moving to a permanent home. If Tom looks like he could be the one for you, please get in touch ASAP!

Used to living with dogs: Tom lived happily with another dog in his previous home and we were told that he missed his friend when they were separated, so there is certainly the potential for Tom to live with a well-behaved, calm dog.

Not used to cats: Tom hasn’t lived with cats and he will chase ones he sees, so he needs a cat-free home.

Good with good children: In the past, Tom has lived with children with no problems, so he should be fine to live with older children who will respect his age. He certainly wouldn’t want to be pulled around or picked up by children.

Walks well on lead – Good in the car: Tom has always been walked on lead as his owners said that off lead he would just go off and do his own thing! He doesn’t have great hearing though so he needs to stay on the lead anyway. He is walked on his harness and just pulls a bit at first but soon settles down. He barks at dogs he sees when he’s on his lead as he has been bitten by an off-lead dog in past. Tom is good in the car.

Tom’s favourite pastimes: Playing with a ball and then having a fuss!

Tom’s perfect home: Tom would like a home where he will get nice on-lead walks, plenty of chances to play with his toys, and someone to make a fuss of him. He’s a lovely little chap who isn’t difficult to care for.

Health notes: Tom is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. He is blind in one eye, has cataracts and he doesn’t hear well. He had extremely long claws when he arrived which have been cut but they will need to have regular trims to get them to the right length. Tom has a noisy trachea which the vet listened to and said that this is quite common and that Tom must only be walked on a harness, not a collar. Tom’s teeth are about to be cleaned and he may need to have a few taken out.

Foster carer’s summary: Tom is playful, loving and happy! To put it simply, Tom is a joy to live with.
