CLARA

Clara is a 2 year old greyhound girl who did not make the grade on the racetrack. She is now looking for her forever sofa. She is a small little black girl with white speckles who’s coat is quite poor at the moment, but this will improve with some good food and TLC.

Clara is a very friendly, happy-go-lucky girl who enjoys being around people getting lots of fuss. She is a bit of goofy girl and likes to give lots of kisses in return for her cuddles. Clara has come to us with her litter sister Dora, who is sadly extremely nervous. Dora relies heavily on Clara for queues on how to react to the big scary world, and so the ideal would be to home them together.

Clara is well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels and enjoys playing with them. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required.

Clara has spent all her life so far in racing kennels, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.

Like most greyhounds, Clara will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

**UPDATE: JANUARY 2011**

Clara is now in a foster home with her sister Dora, and both are doing very well. Clara is getting used to all the household noises and is clean through the night. She gets along great with the other dogs she shares her foster home with, including a small JRT. Clara is a very happy girlie who enjoys playing with her doggie friends and romping around in the garden. She gets excited at the prospect of walk time, though soon settles down in the walk and trots beside you.

**UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011**

Pretty little Clara has now travelled across to a foster home in the UK, where she is now nicely settled with several other dogs. She is also sharing her home with a cat without any problems, so we can deem her as suitable to live in a home with cats.

Clara is continuing to thrive in the home environment, and is a truly happy girl. She is super friendly with both people and other dogs, and loves to do all the things a greyhound does – eat, sleep, run and sleep!

Her coat has greatly improved and now has a nice healthy sheen to it, showing up her white snowflakes very well. She has also put on a lot of muscle tone, and loves nothing better than a good hard game of chase in the garden with her doggie friends.

Clara is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Clara and ideally her sister Dora too, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!
