Moobli - GSD Hampshire MoobliFace

Moobli is a gorgeous 10 year old German Shepherd Dog who came into Oldies Club care when his owner moved abroad. He is now in an Oldies Club foster home in Portsmouth, Hampshire, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Settled quickly: Moobli is a chilled, adaptable lad and he settled into his foster home within a few days. He can be left alone and is perfectly happy.

Good with dogs, cats and children: Moobli is excellent with dogs and cats and could easily live with them. There are 2 resident dogs and 1 cat in his foster home. He has also lived with chickens and ferrets in the past. We were told that he lived with 2 small children in his previous home and was good with them.

Out and about: Moobli is not good on the lead, so his foster carers are walking him on a halti which he walks very well on. Without a halti he pulls a lot! He is good off lead and doesn’t wander too far ahead. He likes to greet other dogs and has a tendency to go “deaf” on recall — he’s sometimes overenthusiastic with his greeting of other dogs and attempts to mount them – girls and boys! He is excellent in the car, settles very quickly and is not excitable.

Moobli’s likes: Moobli likes to sleep a lot. He enjoys his walks. He also enjoys just carrying a kong around. He loves to be brushed.

Moobli’s dislikes: He doesn’t appear to be frightened of anything. He is fine with loud noises, including fireworks.

Moobli’s perfect home: Moobli would be good in any type of home, although due to his age a quieter home would be better and with no small children due to his size and his tendency to barge past people!

Health notes: He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. His health is good with no sign of any hip problems. His teeth could probably do with a scale and polish but our vet said his gums are very good (no smelly breath) so no urgency to get this done unnecessarily. He has recently been poorly with vomiting and diarrhoea for which he had veterinary treatment and he is now fully recovered. Moobli does seem to have a rather sensitive tummy and needs a careful diet. He has a horrible habit of eating other animals faeces which doesn’t help his sensitive tum!

Foster carers’ summary: Moobli is a very chilled, quiet albeit large boy. At 48kg he does look a little intimidating to some people, but he is just The Bear to us. He is a super boy and we really don’t know we have him most of the time. He tends to prefer cooler parts of the house and does rather suffer when the central heating is on. His favourite place is by his foster Dad’s feet whilst we watch TV.

He likes to watch the world go by, inquisitive of what is going on outside. He is not a barker, not even when someone comes to the door; in the time he has been here, he has barked just once and even then we think he surprised himself! We believe Moobli has never encountered stairs — the last 2 years he has lived outside on a farm and before that he lived in Western Australia where most likely the home was just one storey — he has only attempted to go upstairs once and he could not manage past 4, then slipped down so clearly has no experience of them. We have not encouraged him upstairs and he is very happy to sleep downstairs on his own. He doesn’t sleep in a bed but occasionally will take himself onto the dog blanket.

When Moobli first arrived, he did attempt to mount both our dogs quite often, but that stopped after about a week although he does have a tendency to do it now and then on walks; he has no preference to boy or girl dogs nor what size they are. He definitely should always be walked on a halti as he is so strong that he is difficult to control otherwise.

He seems to be more of a man’s dog. He is not a cuddle monster and keeps himself to himself, so wouldn’t really suit anyone who is looking for a dog who shows lots of affection. He would make a good companion for another dog. He is a very well adjusted, good natured lad.

If you can offer Moobli a permanent home, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

He can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet him.

Hope it works out for him this time. He looks & sounds a really nice old lad to me.

For future ref. Amy the mention of "Garbos site" will relate to Garbo Graham who used to be involved with Vigil but now runs Garbos German Shepherd Rescue http://www.garbosgermanshepherddogrescue.co.uk/
