Harry is very handsome 8 and a half year old English Pointer who came into Oldies Club care due to a change of circumstances for his owner. He is now in an Oldies Club foster home near Sleaford in Lincolnshire.

Settling in: Harry took a few days to settle in and he had a few toilet accidents the first few nights due to the stress of leaving his home. He also followed his foster carer from room to room, looking for reassurance — he still does this to some extent but is now more content to lie and watch. Harry is a very sensitive boy and was devoted to his owner. With love and care his confidence is growing though, as is his character.

Can be left if he has dogs for company: Harry can be left for several hours without worry provided he has other doggy company, as he will get stressed if left on his own.

Great with other animals: Harry gets on very well with other dogs and does need the company of another dog or dogs. He has also been used to living with cats and horses. He takes no notice of the two cats in his foster home.

Good with children: Harry is gentle with children. He has been used to living with older ones but sensible younger children who respect the fact that he is getting older would also be OK.

Out and about: Harry loves his walks and is good on the lead. His foster carer has let him off lead in safe conditions but he will chase rabbits if he gets the chance! Harry is fine in the car.

Harry’s likes: Harry loves a nice walk, sleeping in his favourite armchair and then getting you to give him a cuddle – which he is very good at!!

Harry’s dislikes: Harry’s foster carers took him to a country fair and he wasn’t keen on the ping of the gunshots. He isn’t bothered by any household noises though.

Harry’s perfect home: Harry would like a laid back home where there is doggy company and an owner who understands that he has been through a stressful time of late. He needs someone who will be patient with him and allow him time to put his trust in them. He’d be happiest in a home with someone around for a good portion of the day.

Health notes: Harry is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and flea and worm treated. Harry had a small spasm/fit a week after he arrived at his foster home. The vet said that there does not appear to be any medical reason for this and it was probably due to the stress of a new situation as he is a sensitive boy and was upset about having to leave his owner.

Harry’s foster carer sums him up: Harry is calm, gentle, sensitive and loyal.

He is a very special boy who deserves someone who will give him time to feel settled and secure. Although he has been fine left with his doggy companions during the day, I think now, at his time of life, he would benefit from someone being around for at least part of the day. With an understanding owner Harry will blossom and put his trust in them and they will be rewarded with a loyal and loving dog.

Harry is already a star with our dogs as he can open the back door, by putting his paw on the handle and letting them in without waiting for us to do it! He also loves nothing better than to sit close to you on the sofa with his head on your lap!!

If you can offer Harry a permanent home, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

He can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet him.
