Muffin the Magnificent - Collie x Wolfhound (Wisbech)
This is Muffin and what a handsome and distinguished looking fellow he is. Don’t you just love those gorgeous eyebrows! Muffin is 13 years and 6 months old and is believed to be Collie x Wolfhound. He’s currently in the care of an Oldies Club foster home in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
Muffin’s foster mum says that he settled in after about a week, but is taking time getting used to her two dogs. He’s a little nervous and defensive when other dogs get too close and seems to think that he’s going to be hurt, so for the time being he’s not being left alone with them, but in a separate room. He’s good when left though and has been on his own for up to an hour at a time with no problems. He doesn’t chew or bark and he’s clean in the house.
We were told that Muffin doesn’t like cats, but he hasn’t met any yet so we will update when we know more. He’s also not met any children, but he’s quite a friendly boy so would probably be fine with older children as long as they respect his space. He’s sometimes worried about being disturbed when he’s sleeping, so a nice quiet place where he can snooze in peace is what this boy wants.
Muffin loves going out walking and he does pull on the lead a little to begin with, but after the initial excitement he walks quite nicely. He hasn’t been off-lead yet, but he responds well to being called in the garden. He’s an intelligent fellow and knows his basic commands; sit, wait, leave, etc. He’s quick to learn and gets upset if he thinks he’s done something wrong, so he responds much better to gentle handling.
Muffin can be nervous of busy traffic, especially when the roads are narrow or he’s in a confined space. He seems much happier in open spaces. A home in the countryside might therefore suit him better or somewhere where he doesn’t have to encounter a lot of traffic every day.
Muffin is good in the car and he’ll jump in and happily settle down for the duration of his journey. He might struggle with getting in and out of high backed cars though.
Muffin is described by his foster mum as loving, gentle, intelligent and responsive and she says that his favourite pastimes include walking, pottering around in the garden, snoozing in a comfy dog bed and just having the company of his owner. He doesn’t seem to have much interest in toys, but we were told that he likes a ball – he just doesn’t like to give it back!
Muffin previously lived with a male owner and has already become quite attached to his foster dad. We think therefore that he’d make a great companion for a single man or perhaps a retired couple.
Muffin is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been flea and worm treated. He has a couple of fatty lumps on his tummy and occasionally has a slight wobble on his back legs, but otherwise he’s in good health.
