Write up and pics of Holly can be found here - http://www.oldies.org.uk/?p=95612

Adorable Holly is an 11 year old Collie Cross, with long legs, who came into Oldies Club care after the arrival of a baby in her previous family. She is in an Oldies Club foster home in Faversham, Kent, and has been waiting since June for someone to offer her a permanent home.

Introducing Holly: Holly is a confident and gentle girl. She loves people but is nervous of young children. Holly enjoys playing with dogs but is happy to leave them if they aren’t the playful type. She is an intelligent girl and likes to join in with whatever you’re doing, but happily settles nearby if you’re busy. Holly is very enthusiastic when greeting people, but is generally an easy-going and obedient girl.
Doing well in foster: Holly settled at her foster home within a couple of days. It took a while for Holly to really trust her foster carer but she is now proving to be an affectionate, intelligent girl.

OK when left: Holly was used to being left while her previous owners worked, but she does enjoy having human company. Her foster carer has left her for 3 hours and Holly was absolutely fine – calm and relaxed. She should be fine with a part-time worker or someone who can take their dog to work.

Good with dogs: Holly gets on well with her foster carer’s dog. She would like to play chase with him, but he’s more the quiet type.

Can’t live with cats: Holly chases cats.

Could live with older children: Holly should be fine to live with respectful older children (about 12+). She isn’t comfortable with small children but tends to just ignore them if there’s enough space, like in the garden. She’s happy to stay in her bed in another room when small children visit her foster home.

Enjoys regular walks: Holly is eager to go for walks but she’s best with two or three 20-minute walks per day rather than one long walk. She pulls a bit on the lead. She comes when called but forgets when excited so she isn’t let off lead outside the garden. Holly responds well to training though.

Good in the car: Yes!

Holly’s favourite pastimes: Being made a fuss of; Going out exploring; Playing with toys; Being made a fuss of again!

Holly’s dislikes: Holly hasn’t shown any particular fears, not even of thunderstorms. If she’s unsure what’s being done to her (for example, grooming) she has the collie habit of grumbling under her breath, but she’s done this less and less as she’s learnt to trust her foster carer, and when treats are involved!

Holly’s perfect home: Holly needs a reasonably active home with a patient owner who will take the time to reassure her about being groomed etc., and will continue her training. She can’t live with young children but is happy to be shut in another room if young children visit. She would be happy as an only dog or living with a compatible dog.

Health notes:

***To help Holly find a permanent home, Oldies Club is offering to pay for her Florinef, Addison’s blood tests, and Carprodyl for life; other health costs would be the responsibility of the adopter***

Holly is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. She has Addison’s disease which is successfully controlled with 5 x Florinef given once a day in a single dose. The stress of Holly’s recent life experiences meant that the dose was increased from 3 per day, but the vet thinks it may be possible to reduce the dose when she’s happily settled in a permanent home. Holly takes tablets readily so this is not a problem. Holly has 6-monthly blood tests to check she is on the correct dosage of Florinef. Holly has arthritis, treated with 1 Carprodyl per day. She is also having Incurin (inexpensive) for bladder control and this works perfectly – no accidents! Holly isn’t affected by her health conditions at all and she’s always up for a walk or game. She’s a very happy girl.
Foster carer’s summary of Holly: Affectionate, enthusiastic, intelligent and happy. Don’t be put off by the health issues – they are very easy to deal with and no problem at all. She is always ready for new activity, but settles readily when none is on offer. Holly is a lovely dog, easy-going and a pleasure to have around, but she desperately needs a permanent home! Whoever adopts her will gain a lovely and rewarding companion.
