HONEY

**UPDATED: JULY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.
Key Points: Great with people, moderately energetic, interactive and responsive, affectionate, playful, goofy, reactive to unfamiliar dogs, can be strong on lead with unfamiliar dogs, great with dogs she knows.

Honey is an 8 year old greyhound girl who is looking for a new forever home of her own. Honey has come back to us now as her previous owner was finding it a bit too hard to walk her. Honey is an absolutely stunning blue fawn girl with super striking eyes and a bright, cheery face. She is in fabulous condition and her coat is satin soft. Honey is fairly big for a female greyhound, but can still curl up small on the sofa!

~ Personality ~
Generally: Loving & affectionate, loves people, playful, goofy, interactive & engaging.
Honey is a very happy-go-lucky girl who is always in a good mood. She really loves people and is super affectionate, interactive and playful. She is also responsive to training and has all the usual house rules down pat. In short, Honey is a beautiful girl both inside and out who very much deserves a home that suits her needs.

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Great in the home, housetrained, good manners, playful, shares well, affectionate, very cuddly.
Honey is well used to living in a house having spent the last 2 years in her previous home. She is housetrained, not destructive, ok to share with other dogs and can also adjust just fine to being an only dog. In the past 2 years she has been both. Honey also has a lovely bouncy playful side and it’s a delight to watch her romp around the garden with a squeaky toy every now and then. Honey likes going for walks and is also very content to curl up for sofa cuddles in the evening.

~ Medical Issues ~
Honey is on a daily dose of Propalin syrup to control mild urinary incontinence, and it is not currently an issue provided she gets her daily medication. She has had a recent check-up at the vets and is otherwise a perfectly healthy, happy girlie.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Great with dogs she knows, shares her home with another greyhound, reactive with unfamiliar dogs and needs further consistent socialisation sessions to improve this.
Honey has a bit of a rocky past with other dogs, and can be reactive to some. Several years ago Honey was attacked by a mastiff and has the scars to prove it. Since then Honey has always been a bit fear aggressive with unfamiliar dogs, but fantastic with dogs she knows. Therefore initial introductions need to be controlled and made safe with the use of a muzzle until Honey is comfortable with the other dog, and vice versa. When walking past unfamiliar dogs, Honey can again be reactive and bark/pull at the other dog. Likewise she can also walk past some unfamiliar dogs just fine, it depends on how the individual dog makes her feel and react.

Though this issue has been going on for quite a while now, it is still possible to improve Honey’s reactions to other dogs with the right level of positive socialisation and interactions. She can be strong on the lead when she becomes reactive, and so needs a competent owner who is able to both control her and then work on improving her reactions to other dogs. We have a behaviourist at hand to help with this issue. Honey has shared her home with other foster dogs throughout the years and so has good dog skills, its just unfamiliar dogs that she becomes nervous with.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks well unless sees unfamiliar dog, can be reactive to some dogs – barks and pulls on lead. Ok in the car. Moderately active and likes a short burst of speed a few times a week.
Honey is a little bit restless in the car, but generally travels ok. On lead she walks well until she sees a new dog, then becomes tense, agitated and will bark/pull at times.

Like most greyhounds, Honey will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area a couple of times a week. Due to her reaction to other dogs, Honey can currently only be let offlead in enclosed areas if no other dogs are around, but once she gets to know a few she could be let offlead with just them to socialise properly.

~ Where Can I Live? ~
Honey would be best suited to a middle aged owner who is a bit familiar with greyhounds and how they tick. She will need consistent work and repetitive socialisation if her canine issue is to improve, but otherwise Honey is a lovely no-hassle sort of girl who is very jolly and playful. She may be a bit too bouncy for children younger than 10 years, and would be too strong for a very elderly couple, but somewhere in the middle there is Honey’s ideal home. Please do ask more about her if you wish.

~ Where Am I? ~
Honey is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Honey is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
