SUE

**UPDATED: 30th SEPTEMBER 2012**

Dear Sue is a 3 year old greyhound girl who has never raced as she didn’t like racetracks. She has been kept by her owner/trainer for the last 3 years and is now getting her chance at finding a forever sofa to retire to. Sue is a petite little lassie, slender in build, and she can curl up even smaller on the sofa! Her lovely black coat is in decent condition but could do with a bit of ‘glossing up’, which should happen gradually as her kennel coat is shed out.

~ Personality ~
Sweet little Sue is a naturally shy girl, and is finding the transition from kennels to house a bit overwhelming right now. She is very friendly and even playful with those she knows, but strangers will frighten her, especially now as she’s been taken from everything familiar to her. When given a bit more time to settle, we look forward to seeing this girlie open up and let us see more of the beautiful personality waiting within.

~ In the Home ~
Sue has just moved into a foster home, where she is experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of a home for the very first time in her 3 years. Naturally, she is a bit overawed right now and we will update with her progress once she has had a bit more time to settle – she has only been in her foster home for a few days so far. Please don’t let this stop you from asking about this delightful little hound though, as given the right amount of time and patience she is going to blossom so beautifully. So far Sue has been clean in the house, and seems to be grasping the concept of housetraining very easily.

~ Other Animals ~
Sue is very well behaved with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She is polite in meeting them, but can be a bit overwhelmed by a very boisterous, in-your-face kind of dog. So right now we feel she would do best in a home with one or two other calm but self-assured dogs present to show her the ropes. She is currently sharing her foster home with 2 other middle aged greyhounds, and is relying hugely on them right now to show her what’s ok in her new surroundings. In her previous home Sue was used to being around many greyhounds at once, so they definitely provide her a level of comfort and security.

Sue has never raced as she didn’t have the desire to chase. As such, she might be cat friendly, and this will be tested once she has had a bit more time to settle and come out of herself.

~ Out and About ~
Sue is a low energy dog, as are most greyhounds. She will be more than happy with two 30min walks a day. She will be ok to be let offlead in a secure area once she has developed a bond with her new family. She walks very well on the lead and doesn’t pull – if she gets frightened she tends towards freezing rather than trying to run away.

Right now Sue is very shy, and doesn’t like crowded places. She is nervous of noisy traffic and especially loud men, but we are hoping that with gradual, gentle exposure to these things, she will slowly come out of herself and learn to enjoy the world around her a bit more.

~ Where Am I? ~
Sue is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to her foster home to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Sue is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Sue, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures. ~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

Our Website: http://www.kerrygreyhounds.co.uk

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I (Tam) can be contacted through the following email:

**UPDATED: 15TH JANUARY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Suffolk, UK.
Key Points: Bit shy at first, very affectionate, house savvy, great with other dogs, walks well on lead, great for first time hound owner.

Dear Sue is a 3 year old greyhound girl who has never raced as she didn’t like racetracks. She has been kept by her owner/trainer for the last 3 years and is now getting her chance at finding a forever sofa to retire to. At 26” to the shoulder, Sue is a petite little lassie, slender in build, and she can curl up even smaller on the sofa! Her lovely black coat is in decent condition but could do with a bit of ‘glossing up’, which should happen gradually as her kennel coat is shed out.

~ Personality ~
Generally: Increasingly curious, social and confident. Affectionate and gentle.
Sweet little Sue is a naturally shy girl and so it’s taken her a few weeks to settle in with her foster parents. During this time, however, she has improved rapidly and vastly from the timid little thing she was when she first arrived. Sue is very quickly becoming a confident and well-adjusted young greyhound.

Sue is also now showing a playful side with her foster parents and it’s a true joy to see such a sensitive lass coming out of her shell. She is extremely affectionate and will come up to anyone for a cuddle if given a bit of time. She loves ear rubs, sleeping in, and really relishes being brushed from head to toe. She is interested in anything going on at home, and has even started to greet visitors to the house, a huge step for her. Sue has now even started to play with toys, and of course loves things that squeak!

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Housetrained, savvy in the home, quiet and polite, not suitable to live with young children, can live with other dogs.
Sue has been in her foster home for about 6 weeks now and is really settled. She has been experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of a home for the very first time in her 3 years, so was a bit overwhelmed at first. But now she is much more comfortable in her own skin, and is happy to be left alone in another room without feeling frightened or lost. Sue has been clean in the house and has grasped the house rules quite quickly. She is not possessive and very content to share her food bowl with other dogs, though will give a grumble if stepped on when sleeping. She is quiet as a mouse and gives her foster mum a big warm welcome when she comes home. She is happy to be left for up to 4hrs with her canine foster siblings for company, and has also mastered going up and down the stairs.

Sue ~ Shy Little Lady Needs Caring Owner - 3yo Black Greyhound Suefoster201215

Sue would be best in a home without young children as she may find the noise and activity rather stressful. She is great with other dogs and could very happily live with them. As she progresses, she is showing us that she is well able to stick up for herself and may in time become a real social butterfly, she just needs to be given a chance to come out of herself. She is making steady progress in her foster home and will be a fantastic friend for someone with the right amount of patience and guidance to let her grow while providing reassurance.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Good with dogs, best to live with another likeminded dog.
Sue is sharing her foster home with a Jack Russell and 3 other greyhounds. After some initial sorting-out, she gets along with them all splendidly and shares her space with no trouble at all.

When meeting new dogs, Sue is very polite and gentle, though is not a big fan of very boisterous, in-your-face kind of dogs. She is playful in short bursts but doesn’t like to play overly rough or for long periods of time. So right now we feel she would do best in a home with other calm but self-assured dogs present to show her the ropes but not get in her space. She is currently sharing her foster home with another middle aged greyhound, and they get along fantastically. In her previous home Sue was used to being around many greyhounds at once, so they definitely provide her a level of comfort and security. Sue is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks well on lead, very mannerly, can spook at loud noises/sudden movements but recovers well.
Sue is a low energy dog, as are most greyhounds. She will be more than happy with two 30min walks a day. She walks very well on the lead and doesn’t pull – if she gets frightened she tends towards freezing rather than trying to run away. Right now she is still a little bit frightened of busy places if people are shouting or moving quickly, and her foster mum is working with her on this on a regular basis by taking her to the park when there are football games etc. on. She is already showing a rapid improvement. After some time to bond with her new owners, and to work on her recall, Sue will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas far away from public roads.
