ELLIOTT

**UPDATED: 17th SEPTEMBER 2012**

Say hi to the very pretty Elliott. He is a 10-12 month old lurcher boy, possibly whippet x though he is a bit taller than your average whippet. Little Elliott was luckily taken out of death row in a UK pound and is now waiting for his forever family to come along and sweep him up.

Elliott has a beautiful fawn coat with adorable liquid black eyes and a very intelligent expression. He is all elbows and knees at the moment but is going to be a very elegant hound once he matures.

~ Personality ~
Elliott is a really gorgeous little lad with a big, very lovable personality. He is cheeky, bouncy and affectionate with oodles of love to give to anyone who spares him some time. Elliott really really adores people and enjoys being around them. He must be feeling quite spoilt now that he’s in a foster home getting all the human attention he could ever wish for!

Elliott is still very much a young puppy, and so is very playful and so funny to watch. He is curious about the world around him and his fosterers say it’s a huge joy to watch him explore and learn. This lad has his whole life ahead of him and has unlimited potential to be whatever his future parents want him to be.

~ In the Home ~
Elliott has only been in his foster home for 2 weeks now, but he has settled extremely well considering his not-so-nice start to life. He has clearly never been in a home before as everything is amazing to him, but despite that he has been very good and well behaved, with only one toilet accident in 2 weeks. He asks to go out by whining at the door, and will even go and find you to whine in your face if you don’t get the message! He really loves toys and is hilarious to watch during his daily mad 5 minutes of zoomies.

Elliott is very playful and inquisitive, but doesn’t bark much considering his age. He is, however, super curious about everything in the house. Though not overly destructive, he likes picking up items to find out more about them, and so household items might ‘grow legs’ until he is past this phase. He is fine to be left for short periods with another dog for company, but would currently get distressed if left completely alone, as would the majority of puppies. This is an area that will need further work and training if he is to be left completely alone for any period of time.

~ Other Animals ~
Elliott is sharing his foster home with a female GSD x, and they generally get on well and play beautifully together. However, Elliott can be quite tense and dominant with other dogs, this perhaps being his only real issue. It’s possible Elliott had to compete with other dogs in his early days, as he guards his treats from other dogs and has not yet learned to share. He is completely fine if a human wants to take his food from him, but will give a good grumble if another dog comes too close for his own comfort.

Elliott can also be dominant-tense when meeting other dogs on lead, perhaps linked to the fact that he’s still learning about the whole lead-walking concept. He has had wonderful moments of offlead play with previously unfamiliar dogs and is in general much more relaxed and comfortable in himself when offlead. His foster parents are working with him on this issue on a daily basis, but it is likely something that will need continued work and repetition with his new family too. Really what Elliott needs is to socialise with as many other dogs as possible so that he can get more experience in interacting with other dogs on a friendly, harmless basis while on a lead. He also needs to gain a bit more trust in his people so that he doesn’t feel uncomfortable when his ability to flee is taken away by a leash – again it is very early days for him having just been in his foster home for just 2 weeks thus far. He would greatly benefit from attending puppy classes and Kerry Greyhounds UK will urge his potential adopters to do so.

~ Out and About ~
Elliott really loves his walks, though doesn’t get very fidgety if you’re running late and mess up his routine. He is still learning to walk properly on the lead and again this might very well be the root of his current tenseness around other on lead dogs. He is still a young puppy though so it shouldn’t take him too long to figure out that being on lead and technically unable to run away isn’t anything to worry about. He is very good in the car and loves travelling with you.

~ Where Can I Live? ~
Elliott is still a young pup so can potentially learn to adapt to a range of home types. People are most definitely the center of Elliott’s world, and he needs human interaction to be really happy. He doesn’t ask much of his foster parents, just companionship, and is very happy to follow his foster mum around as she does the household chores. His love for people should make Elliott a really nice dog to work with and train, as he is so eager to get affection and to please his people. As such, we feel Elliott would be happy in a moderately active family or couple. He is very good with kids and could live happily in a home with children over the age of 8.

Due to Elliott’s current feelings about other dogs, we think he would be fine to live as an only dog provided he’s not left alone for long periods of time. However, we also think he will eventually get over his current dog issues, and so could potentially go to a home with one or two other, confident dogs present who won’t take any bossiness from him.

~ Where Am I? ~
Elliott is currently in a foster home in Kent. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Elliott is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. He is being neutered this week, and so will be ready for adoption 2 weeks from now once his stitches come out. If interested in this boy, please don’t wait however, as we don’t expect him to be waiting for very long!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

Our Website: http://www.kerrygreyhounds.co.uk

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures.
