LUCY

**UPDATED: JANUARY 2013**

Location: Kennels in Suffolk, UK. Lucy would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home.
Key Points: Very loving little poppet, good for first time hound owner, walks to heel, good traveller, dog savvy.

Dear Lucy is a 2 year old greyhound girl who was unwanted by her previous owner and had been advertised online as ‘free to a good home’. Luckily she has truly fallen on her feet now, with a guarantee of finding a lovely loving home.

Lucy is a little black girl, dainty and cute as a button with a black coat and white tips. She is 23” to the shoulder and can curl up very small indeed! Once she gets a healthy shine back to her coat she’ll be a truly gorgeous little girl.

~ Personality ~
Generally: Super loving, friendly, social, undemanding, quiet, gentle.
Lucy is an absolute dote! She is super gentle, affectionate, loves people and is really friendly in such a sweet way. She doesn’t rush up and demand attention, but she craves it and soaks up any fuss given to her. This girl is going to be so happy once she’s in a home environment surrounded by people and love.

Lucy would be a fantastic choice for a first time greyhound owner. She has no real faults to speak of and would teach you all about the perks of having a greyhound as a pet.

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Not yet home savvy.
Lucy has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. Lucy is a very laid back, low-maintenance girl by nature so we don’t expect the transition from kennels to house to be overwhelming. The biggest problem might be getting her up in the mornings!

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Great with other dogs of all sizes.
Lucy has been excellent with all the other dogs she has met, regardless of size and shape. She would do very well as a companion for another dog and would slot nicely into a pack. She enjoys canine company and is sure to play more once she’s in a home environment and allowed to express her puppyish side. Lucy is not suitable to live with cats.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, very social, calm, settles well in car.
Lucy walks excellently on the lead and is also a great traveller. In fact she loves the car and usually falls right to sleep! Like most greyhounds, Lucy will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area a few times a week. Lucy might enjoy a few mad moments of zooming around the garden, but will then happily flop out on the sofa for a good long snooze. She is very much a no-bother sort of dog. She will need some recall training before she can be let offlead, but this is very doable once a bond has been formed with her new parents.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~
Lucy is currently being kennelled in Suffolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to her to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Lucy is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She will be neutered before going to her new home. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Lucy, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
