Casper ~ Fantastic All Rounder – 3yo Long Haired Lurcher

CASPER

**UPDATED: AUGUST 2012**

Meet the glorious Casper! He is a lovely fluffy lurcher who is approx. 3 years old. Casper was rescued out of the pound so we don’t have much history on him. He came to rescue quite thin with a patchy coat covered in old welts and healing wounds. That was a few months ago however, and Casper is definitely 100% ready for his forever family to come along. He has put on weight, gotten nice and fit, and has a beautiful silky fawn coat that is starting to glisten in the sun.

Casper is quite a big boy at 28” to the shoulder. There has been a big debate as to what his mix is, but we think he may be borzoi x collie mix, perhaps with some saluki and retriever in there too!

~ Personality ~
Casper has SUCH a personality, you could write essays on him! He is gentle and friendly, very social and good with everyone and everything except cats. He really is a super dog with super potential to be that dream dog for someone. Casper is a perfect gent with children and doesn’t jump up or get boisterous around them. As such, he could live happily in a home with children over the age of 8.

Casper is one of those beautiful dogs that is good and mannered but still has just enough ‘quirk’ to keep you on your toes! Its hard not to smile at this guy’s antics, and he keeps his fosterers well entertained. Casper loves toys, especially squeakers, and will play and romp around the garden with gusto before coming inside for a good long snooze. Like most lurchers, Casper loathes the rain, and like many lurchers, he is a rather devious food thief who will rob any unsupervised dinner. This is a habit that can be overcome and his foster parents have been working with him on it.

~ In the Home ~
Casper is generally very well behaved in the house and, apart from his countersurfing habit, he doesn’t cause any trouble or hassle. He is happy to snooze away after his morning walk and also after his mad moments of garden zoomies. He is fully housetrained and can be left with other dogs for company. He isn’t keen on being separated from his pack, however, and care will need to be taken with his new family so that he doesn’t become overly clingy, a behaviour that can lead to separation anxiety. Kerry Greyhounds UK have a behaviourist on hand to give advice on how to avoid this potential problem should you need it.

~ Other Animals ~
Casper is a dog savvy, sociable boy who really enjoys his canine company. He is currently sharing his foster home with 5 other dogs that include huskies and salukis, and is good with them all. He can become the play police if groups of 3 or more dogs are playing together, and likes to dictate how the play will be run, but he is not overly dominant and there is no malice in him at all. He loves to play with other dogs and would do very well in a home with one or several other dogs present to play and interact with. He might not be best homed with a very dominant male, but a bossy lady should be well tolerated.

~ Out and About ~
Casper is a total star when out and about. He is gentle, friendly, polite and calm, loving other people and animals alike. He is a very pretty looking gent and tends to attract lots of attention when out, which he soaks up like a great big fawn sponge!

Casper walks well on the lead and travels good in the car. Bringing this boy out with you is pure pleasure. Casper can be let offlead in a secure area and has good recall. He will run around doing his own thing but always comes back to check in every now and then. Once he has bonded with his new family, Casper has great potential to be safe offlead provided there are no roads or livestock in the area.

~ Where Can I Live? ~
Casper is a very adaptable boy who could slot in to a range of home types. He would do well in a balanced pack of dogs, but could also likely adapt to living as an only dog provided he got a decent daily quota of human interaction – Casper loves his people. He can adapt to an active household with many walks a day, but also doesn’t mind if he only gets 1-2 short walks a day with offlead runs once or twice a week. This flexible boy is truly fantastic and has sooo much potential for his new family. He is a five-star hound!

~ Where Am I? ~
Casper is currently in a foster home in Norwich. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Casper is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

Our Website: http://www.kerrygreyhounds.co.uk

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

Casper is sadly still looking for his forever home. He was adopted for a very short time before being returned due to no real fault of his own – the resident terrier took a strong dislike to him.

If you are interested in adopting Casper, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures.

If you have any further questions or problems, please feel free to email me (Tam) on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks!
