Teddy is a 3 year old Yorkshire Terrier looking for a special forever home. He needs a quiet home where someone is around most of the day. Teddy can live with other dogs but can't live with children or cats. He has some issues but to anyone willing to look past this and offer him the home he needs then he will make a loyal friend so please take the time to read about him.
Teddy has been staying with our behaviourist for a full assessment of his issues and how they can be worked on.

The ideal homing scenario for Teddy would be a mature single person or childless couple who have a large garden/rural lifestyle. Teddy would not necessary need a lot of exercise and would be happy to play ball/tug off lead in a secure garden.

When visitors were present (unless they were well known to him and understanding of his sensibilities) he would have to be crated and always when children were in attendance.

Teddy will always need to be muzzle when walked in an environment where he is likely to encounter children. Though for quiet country walks a head collar and sensible precautions by his owner would suffice. He should always be muzzled if let off lead in a public area.

Ideally he would not be left alone for long periods of time so a retired couple or someone working from home would be a good scenario.

Teddy can get on well with other dogs particularly small dogs and a companion might well assist with his separation anxiety. Teddy’s aggression to other dogs has occurred when he is close to his primary caregiver. This suggest that he may be guarding the caregiver and defending a perceived resource of high value and is an issue that would need continued work if rehoming with another dog.

Sensible behaviours to teach are 1) Move off the couch 2) Leave it 3) Go to your crate. Teddy is not easy, but is a lovely dog who could well be rehomed to a suitable owner who is willing to work through his difficulties.

Only positive reinforcement should be used with Teddy otherwise he will respond negatively.
